Caution - if residents explore either preserve/conservation areas - please be aware of potential wildlife including alligators, large spiders/snakes, and wild hogs.
Vero Shores has a long standing relationship with the Indian River Land Trust. The Coastal Oaks Preserve runs along the NorthEast border of the neighborhood and is part of a total of 226 protected acres. Residents occasionally explore the preserve, but must follow the strict rules given to us to take nothing and leave nothing behind (including pet waste).
Please be sure to respect the importance of our protected preserves.
The Indian River Land Trust is also constructing a Living Classroom just north of the Vero Shores Community on US1. This inviting educational space will provide a unique, hands-on learning and research experience for youth and adults alike.
Vero Shores encourages its residents to follow County Code & Building Regulations. Please refer to the below departments for contact information and additional information. Please note - anonymous complaints will not be investigated, all complaints are public record.
The Harmony Oaks Conservation area borders the South side of the neighborhood (entrance located at the end of 4th Ave SE). This area is monitored and protected by Indian River County - a 90-acre tract acquired in 1998 that contains coastal hammock, freshwater wetlands, and mangrove swamp.
Indian River Mosquito Control is aware of the mosquito population in Vero Shores. Helpful recommendations for individual properties are the use of Thermacells, MosquitoDunks, & bug spray. Reduce/eliminate standing water potentials around property. Some residents hire a spray service to help control the population around their property (there are safer/less toxic spraying options).
